About The Author:

When I was in grade school, I often imagined writing my story. My dream never left me, and now at age 58 my dream came true. When I started telling my story in women’s groups and churches, I felt God’s blessing and encouragement that I would tell this story again. When I began to write “My Amish Life,” I finish my first draft in two months.

Each roadblock in the editing process felt impossible, but in my mind I pictured the Red Sea of the Old Testament. By God’s grace, each hurdle was overcome, despite feeling completely out of options. He brought all the right people into my life at the right time to help make this book happen.

I was born in Indiana on a dairy farm, and moved to Ohio when I was 3. I’ve lived in Ohio for the majority of my life. Growing up Old Order Amish, I experienced a unique lifestyle that most “English” people find very fascinating. I can often relate to descriptions of life in the 1800’s. I get many questions about the Amish lifestyle and customs. Among the varieties of Amish, there are some similarities in each. Most people do not realize that Amish communities come in many “flavors.” I write of my experience.

My husband and I made the difficult decision to leave our family, friends, and everything we knew. It was a big leap of faith, but God brought the right people into our lives. We realized our life decisions were based on the word of God and put aside the warnings of our Amish leaders.

My desire is to bring hope and encouragement to anyone reading this book who might feel restrained by tradition or rules. My prayer is that you will seek God and find connection and direction in His word, that you too will dare to walk by faith and freedom.
