In I Was Amish, Malinda writes how she learned how to be a satisfied person fourteen years after leaving the Amish. She says, "I know I could have happy moments in either world, yet I chose to have it away from the Amish where I can also have my own religious freedom." She treasures those moments. Her story is told in the events of her life. Yet in the end, all said and done, she never regretted leaving the Amish or learning everything she did. She found the other side of misery. She learned that she believed in self respect and living a whole life which made everything complete.

About the Author:

Malinda lived much of her life surrounded by a small Amish community in Missouri for twenty years; they were not the most traditional or insular Amish sects. Aside from a lack of electricity, she was fairly modern and many of the community's homes simulated modern assets; they had indoor plumbing, bright lights and cushioned chairs. Her book, "I Was Amish" shows the Amish lifestyle as a unique religious experience in which most of the outside world remains blinded. In an effort to bring truth and reality to the inside life of an Amish girl, she wrote her story.
