Cream Sticks

2 T. yeast
1 c. warm water
6 c. flour
1 c. scalded milk
1/2 c. margarine
2/3 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
Instructions
Dissolve the yeast in the water, mix it with the rest of the ingredients to form a dough. Let the dough rise until double in size; knead and form it into sticks 3-1/2 in. x 1-1/2 in. Let it rise again before frying in hot oil 365.
Cream filling
3 T. flour
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar
1 c. crisco
1 tsp. vanilla
2-1/2 c. confectioner's sugar
To make the filling, cook together the flour and milk till thick paste forms. Cream the sugar and crisco, then add the flour mixture and the vanilla. Cream it well and add the confectioner's sugar. Slit open the top of the cream sticks to fill them. If desired, frost them with the following frosting.
Frosting
1/2 c. brown sugar
4 T. butter
2 T. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 - 1 c. confectioner's sugar
Mix the first three ingredients and let them come to a boil before allowing them to cool. Add the vanilla and enough confectioner's sugar to make the frosting the right spreading consistency.
