Question #2: What scripture passages did God use to help you in your journey?
What scripture passages did God use to help you in your journey?
- Romans 3:23 and Ephesians 2:8-9 were the two scripture verses that impacted me the most. Romans helped me to see that I was a sinner, who came short of reaching God on my own accord. I had nothing to offer God, except filthy rags. Ephesians helped me understand that God's salvation to mankind was free with no strings attached. This was huge for one, who had tried all his life to please God by his own righteousness.
- John 3:16; I realized that God actually loved me.
- There were many, but the promise of Romans 10:13 was my go to on days I doubted.
- John 3:16.
- Ephesians 2:8-10, Colossians 2:20-23.
- Verses revolving around assurance of salvation.

- Genesis 28: 20-21: Then Jacob made a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God. Also Colossians 3.

- The Gospel of John.
- John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 12:13; 1 Peter 3:21.
- I was sick for several years and couldn't provide for my family. When things got really bad, and we were without provisions, Psalms 34:9 made me question my standing with God. Also, Psalm 145:19 caused me to cry out to God, to repent, and to ask Him to rescue me and make me His child. He heard and answered my humble prayer and saved me.
- Psalm 103 was and is very encouraging to me. I lived a rough lifestyle, and this passage comforts me.
- Romans 5:1 Romans 8:1 Romans 8:28 Galatians 2:20-21.
- Galatians 5:1 and Romans 4:15.
- "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 This scripture was a life changer for me.
- There were many: Matthew 7:7-8 and Ephesians 2:8-10. I realized all non-believers, Amish and non-Amish, must come to God the same way. I have found that many non-Amish who want to work with the Amish really don't know Jesus in a real intimate way themselves; this is a problem.
- Literally for me it was reading the bible in a language that I understand. Romans 8 has become one of my favorites.
- I actually didn’t even have a Bible or really know any scripture when I got saved. It was simply seeing the peace that Jesus brought to someone, who had previously lived a very ungodly life (as I was) that made me turn to Him in despair.
- "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast."

- John 3:16.
- Psalms & Proverbs.
- The book of Galatians was a wakeup call to me that there was a foundational problem with the teaching we were brought up with.

John 3:6: "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit."
John 3:7: "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
John 3:15: "That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. It isn't our works but the works of God that save us!"
John 6:28: "Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?
John 6:29: "Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. A person cannot find any place that God requests for man to confess his sins in order to have salvation!" - Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
- Ephesians 2:8
- Ephesians 2:8-9; Just reading through The Gospel of John and also Galatians.
- One passage, which stood out to me was the story of the woman at the well in John 4. It helped me to understand the value Jesus placed on women and that He was willing to cross all barriers to connect with this woman. He was a Jew and spoke with a Samaritan; He was a man, and he spoke with a women in public, which would have not been culturally accepted, and not only that, she was a woman even other women rejected. It was encouraging to know that Jesus chose to violate centuries of tradition to ultimately change this woman's life. In this and many other passages, Jesus established the dignity and worth of women; this was important to me as a plain woman because there are some similarities with how women were viewed in Bible times and how they are viewed in the plain culture.

- John 14:6: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."
- You must forsake your father, mother, brother and yourself to be my disciple. All those who are my disciple will suffer persecution for if I [Jesus] went through this you will too. For it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for His good pleasure and lots more, to see the love of God for us even now!
- John 3:3, John 3:16, and many more since!
- All the scripture verses on being justified were such good news and helped me to understand in a new light. It was amazing to learn that God sees us as He sees Christ, and that eternity begins now! The book of Romans says so much.
- Many many different ones: Psalm 23:1, John 19:20, James 1, Hebrews 13:8.
